Your New Favorite Patio Pitcher

There is a specific kind of magic that only exists on a warm Midwestern summer evening. The heat of the day finally begins to loosen its grip, a gentle breeze rustles through the oak trees, and the crickets start their soft nighttime chorus. You’ve dragged out a few extra lawn chairs, someone brought an extra bag of ice, and nobody is looking at the clock.

These impromptu porch and patio gatherings are the absolute heart of summer. But if you want to turn a standard “catch-up on the deck” into an evening everyone talks about until harvest season, there’s one secret ingredient: a signature patio pitcher drink.

The Magic of a Batch Cocktail for Porch Parties

We’ve all been there—you invite friends over for a casual Saturday cookout, and suddenly you’re stuck playing bartender all night. Opening individual cans, mixing single drinks, and wiping down counters while the rest of the crew is outside laughing.

"A batch cocktail changes everything. Setting out a frosty glass pitcher filled with fresh fruit, ice, and a sparkling wine punch says, 'Help yourself, pull up a chair, and stay a while.'"

That’s where a custom summer wine spritz comes in. It feels generous, thoughtful, and wonderfully festive, yet it requires almost zero effort once your guests arrive. And when you build your wine punch around a red bottle crafted specifically for golden-hour porch sipping, you’re instantly setting the mood for a memorable night.

Meet the Star of the Show: Waska Red

If you’ve spent any time with us at Rolling Forks Vineyards, you know our Waska series is a heartfelt tribute to the breathtaking sunsets over Lake Minnewaska. These wines were made for lingering on the patio as day transitions into dusk.

Our customer-favorite Waska Red is a delightfully sweet red wine that practically leaps out of the glass with big, bright fruit aromatics. On the nose, you get a rush of fresh pomegranate, ripe raspberries, sweet strawberries, and a hint of dark plum. Served ice-cold, its vibrant fruit flavors make it irresistibly refreshing for warm weather.

Even better, Waska Red carries a story of Midwestern resilience. Following a challenging crop season hit by hail and drought, our vintners creatively blended grapes to craft a wine that conquered adversity while maintaining exceptional quality—earning a Silver Medal at the 2025 Finger Lakes Wine Competition! It’s a bottle born from ingenuity, perfect for celebrating good company.

Recipe: Red Sunset Wine Punch Spritz

While Waska Red is fantastic on its own served cold over ice, turning it into a light, bubbly summer wine punch makes it the ultimate crowd-pleaser. The juice compliments the sweet berry notes, while ginger ale adds a gentle, refreshing fizz.

Recipe Details

  • Prep Time: 5 minutes

  • Servings: 1 Large Pitcher (6–8 Servings)

  • Flavor Profile: Sweet, Fizzy & Fruity

  • Base: Rolling Forks Vineyards Waska Red Wine

Ingredients:

  • 1 bottle (750ml) Waska Red, well-chilled

  • 2 cups Ginger Ale (or Club Soda for a less sweet, extra-bubbly spritz)

  • 1 cup Cranberry Juice

  • 1/4 cup Triple sec or orange liqueur

  • 1 cup Fresh strawberries, sliced

  • 1/2 cup Fresh raspberries or pomegranate seeds

  • 1 Orange, sliced into rounds

  • Fresh mint sprigs for garnish

  • Plenty of ice

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Fruit: In a large glass pitcher, add the sliced strawberries, raspberries (or pomegranate seeds), and orange rounds.

  2. Pour & Blend: Pour in the juice, triple sec, and the entire bottle of chilled Waska Red. Give it a gentle stir so the fruity flavors mingle.

  3. Add the Fizz: Just before serving, top off the pitcher with chilled ginger ale or sparkling club soda.

  4. Garnish & Serve: Fill glasses with ice, pour the punch over top (making sure everyone gets a scoop of fresh fruit!), and garnish with a slapped sprig of fresh mint.

What to Serve Alongside Your Patio Punch

No Midwestern patio gathering is complete without great food. Waska Red’s bright, fruit-forward profile makes it extraordinarily versatile at the cookout grid:

  • Off the Grill: The sweet berry notes contrast magnificently with smoky barbecue—think pulled pork sandwiches, smoked brisket, or grilled chicken and pork tenderloin topped with a fruity glaze.

  • Fresh & Earthy: For a lighter spread, serve alongside a beet and goat cheese salad or a creamy mushroom risotto.

  • Sweet Endings: Save a splash in your glass for dessert—it pairs effortlessly with rich dark chocolate treats!

So, wipe off the patio table, turn on the bistro lights, and pop open a bottle of Waska Red. Here’s to long nights, great friends, and full glasses. Cheers!
