Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 star anise
  • 4-5 cinnamon sticks
  • 4 tablespoons of sugar (or to taste)
  • 2 oranges
  • 1 quince
  • 1 apple
  • 1.5 cups of water
  • Half a lemon
  • A bottle of Frontenac from Rolling Forks Vineyards
  • Cloves
  • Cardamom

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Fruits:
    • Begin by peeling the oranges and attaching cloves to the peels for an added burst of flavor.
    • Finely chop the quince and apple.
  2. Create the Base:
    • In a large pot, pour 1.5 cups of water and squeeze in the juice of half a lemon.
    • Add the juice from the oranges you peeled.
  3. Simmer the Ingredients:
    • Add the chopped quince and apple to the pot.
    • Toss in the cinnamon sticks and sugar.
    • Cover the pot and let it simmer for about 30 minutes, allowing all the flavors to meld beautifully.
  4. Infuse with Wine:
    • After the mixture has simmered, add the red wine along with the star anise and cardamom.
    • Important: Make sure not to boil the wine to preserve its rich flavors.
  5. Adjust the Sweetness:
    • Taste your mulled wine and adjust the sugar according to your preference.
  6. Strain and Serve:
    • Once heated, pass the mixture through a cloth strainer to remove the solid ingredients.
